Description
Here is a new in package genuineGibson PPAT-059 Historic Spec Potentiometer 500K Audio Taper Short Shaft.
NOTE:
the model pot (potentiometer) is designed to replicate the way that a Gibson pot worked / sounded like in the late 1950s.
I am not a Gibson historian and I am not an expert on all Gibson parts - so I need assistance on this part (so I have an understanding what it does and how it is supposed to work)
. I
do have a few Gibson Historic guitars on hand. Therefore - if necessary I can answer questions upon request with how I feel that this pot will function on a electric guitar.
If you are not sure if this is the correct part for your guitar - I would recommend that you contact Gibson Customer Service. Go to the Gibson website (gibson.com).
NOTE: there is
NO Gibson logo
on this part Historic Spec potentiometer because in the late 50s (and up to a certain point in Gibson's early days - maybe even later) Gibson pots did not have Gibson logos. But this Historic Spec pot in this listing (and the ones that Gibson makes) does /do have numbers (digits) on the side. 430-71100 (there are five more numbers - but I cannot read what they are and they do not show up clearly in the pictures).
SEE picture # 7.
In the past I have sold some of this model pot and it had the following numbers imprinted on it
430-71100 1830 7 (so maybe the last five digits are the same).
If you are accustomed to (used to) the Volume / Tone sweep of modern or contemporary Gibson guitars -- or other brand electric guitars in general - and you install this part on your guitar - you might not like how it works / sounds (or you might need time to get the hang of using it to get the sounds & tones that you want to get).
-- Even though the product info says that this part has "a dynamic sweep from 1 to 10" - I think that it does not really kick in until the control is turned to the 10 o'clock position (which is like 4 - going from 0 to 10 for the numbers the a knob). Therefore just make a note of this and that the part is not defective - it is just working the way is is designed to.
The following (in purple) is information about this product:
"Replicates the original down to every last detail!
Straight from Gibson Guitar's Historic Re-issue guitars come Gibson's new Historic Spec series-parts that have been specially designed to replicate the original parts used by Gibson in the late 1950s.
This Historic Potentiometer has been designed to be more vintage-accurate than any other potentiometer on the market today. With a dynamic sweep from 1 to 10, you'll notice the difference. For anyone who's ever said, "They don't make 'em like they used to," here's some proof to the contrary."
This part is ideal for someone who: 1)
needs to replace a part on a Gibson Historic Guitar that uses this model part. 2) for someone replicating a Gibson late 1950 LP guitar. 3) someone who what the electronic similar to a late 50s Gibson electric guitar. You get the idea.
Also - There are several reputable guitar parts makers / companies who/that make potentiometers.
This Historic Spec potentiometer might or might not be the kind of pot that you should get.
I strongly recommend that you to do some research and / or even talk to a guitar tech to see if this is the correct part for your guitar (and - or for your guitar sound / tone / etc preference...).
The potentiometer comes with a nut, a washer and a locking washer. They are in A+ condition.
The packaging is mostly is A+ condition.
FRONT SIDE:
The clear plastic has horizontal creases to the left and to the right of the pot. The clear plastic might have a few very light surface scratches. Just the way that this item was packaged.
The paper part is fine.
BACK SIDE:
There is some visible- but not too serious - wear (unevenness on the top edge and on the top corners (the the way it was manufactured - most people would not even be concerned about the unevenness).
The edges of the upper center factory made hole some visible- but not too serious - wear / unevenness from handling and maybe also from how it was manufactures.
The mid to right area has a few small dark gray surface markings.
Also - in the pictures - you might see that the clear plastic part of the packaging that is over the pot has a few surface imperfections, surface nicks, glares, dust /lint specks that makes the pot appear cloudy or blotchy or to have imperfections. But the pot is fine.
You can see the condition of this pot and the packaging in the pictures. Feel free to ask for more pictures of this item (especially more close-up pics).
In case you are wondering - I have a few more of this item (this listing is just for ONE). Please message me if you are interested in buying more than one of the PPAT-059 pots. Depending on how many you buy - the shipping / packaging cost will not increase much. Please message me for information.
