his auction is for a lovely antique octagonal Chinese famille rose porcelain planter, pot or narcissus bowl.  The background is white porcelain and there is a floral design in colors of famille rose on each of the eight sides.  The artist used very soft colors of red, blue, green, pink, white, gold, orange and brown in the design.  The artist used a traditional motif in the top border which is trimmed in gold.   The heavy planter rests on four graceful feet where the sides are

.  The shape of the planter is a classic antique Chinese design that can be difficult to find in such brilliant condition as with this planter.   These bowls had a variety of uses but were very popular for narcissus or bonsai.  Please see photos of African Violets displayed in this antique bowl.
I purchased the planter many years ago at a fine Asian antique store in San Francisco.  The planter is unmarked but was possibly mid 19th century Qing.  It is in excellent antique condition with only normal expected wear.  There are normal characterisics of old porcelain such as pits, tiny dark spots and spots of clay on the bottom surface.  There is loss of gold on the border from normal wear.  There could be surface scratches and minor paint loss.  There are no chips, cracks, damage or repairs.  The inside of the planter does not have dirt or water stains.
